I don’t like standard beauty- there is no beauty without
strangeness – Karl Lagerfeld
I love this quote, I find it very inspiring because like light and dark, day to night, big to small there is no fun to beautiful unless its strange and has a element of weird
My passion is to make art; fashion design
provides me with the opportunity to produce a piece of art in the form of a
garment. Art as functional fashion is what I strive towards; I find inspiration
in a fantasy world, where more is more, drama is everywhere and embellishment
is everything.
If I were to describe Haus of Dethridge or my style and
design signature, it would be dramatic. I search to find the quirk in a classic
style; I like fashion to be fun, flirty, feminine and different.
When designing, I
always start with embellishment, and what will make the garment beautiful, and what
will create the biggest impact. I find that like icing on a cake, the final
embellishments, whether simple or extravagant complete a piece. Embellishment
is my own personal focal point; it is what I see in design before I see
anything else.
What I love about
the fashion industry is that it is constantly evolving. I also love that a
designer can tell and express so much through a garment and collection and
turning simple things in to beautiful pieces.
